Do Therapeutic Communities work?

Generally personality problems have been considered one of the hardest set of problems to help with, and there is a lack of research in the area.  Most interventions that have been tested have failed to show an appreciable or lasting effect.

There are a number of cost offset studies of Therapeutic communities around, all of which demonstrate a large decrease in use of services (seeing GPs, Psychiatrists, being admitted to psychiatric hospitals, use of psychiatric medication).
